For the launch of the Museum of Extinct Animals show in Milan, Moooi searched museum archives to find drawings of some of the extraordinary animals the world has lost. The new Extinct Animals Collection features 10 extraordinary animals and brings their stories and legends back into focus.
Inspired by the beautiful colours, structures and patterns of fur, plumage and skin, animals including the Sloth, Bearded Leopard, Flying Coral Fish, Dwarf Rhinossaurus and Calligraphy Bird are brought vividly back to life, along with their legends and stories from the past.
Textures, shapes and patterns "merge harmoniously in three-dimensional worlds”, reiterates Moooi. It’s a design approach that has built Moooi's reputation on imagination and beauty, often found in unexpected places. With multi-layered, sharp and vibrant weaves and prints central to each carpet. "Thanks to the use of an extremely soft and comfy high pile yarn," remarks Moooi. "high-resolution prints bring the animals back into our lives, untamed and beautiful."
The Extinct Animals collection is part of Moooi Carpets' Signature Collection developed in collaboration with international designers and artists. The full offering includes Signature Rugs, Signature Broadlooms and Jacquard Woven Rugs; the Moooi Works Configurator with its database of adjustable designs for customisation, and Your Own Design that is a custom-made option for interior projects with very specific requirements.
Collaborating with designers, projects and hotels all over the world, Moooi Carpets can be found at the Andaz Hotel in Amsterdam, the Kameha Grand in Zurich, the Sir Savigny in Berlin, and the Mondrian in Doha.
