Along with Kengo Kuma of Kengo Kuma and Associates, Lisa Iwamoto and Craig Scott of Iwamotoscott Architecture; and Patrick Tighe of Patrick Tighe Architecture, Marcel Wanders has been recognised by Interior Design Magazine in New York for achievements in design and interior design, joining the magazine’s 34th Hall of Fame.
With a career that has spanned more than two decades the Dutch designer has balanced creativity with business acumen, establishing his studio in Amsterdam where collaborations with Bisazza, Kartell, Alessi, Swarovski, Poliform, B&B Italia and more, have flourished. It is also the place where his own design brand Moooi was born. Launched in 2001 with co-founder Casper Vissers, Moooi is where Marcel as both art director and chief designer curates the collection of furniture, lighting and objects with designers including Piet Boon, Studio Job, Maarten Baas and Bertjan Pot, a particular group of creatives who work between the lines of art and design and like nothing more than shaking up the status quo. "Iconoclastic. Provocative. Even controversial. Marcel’s whimsical imagination has taken him all over the map… he and his staff of 60 have brought to life his playful, quirky, and fantastical ideas.” enthuses Interior Design’s editor Cindy Allen who welcomed Marcel to the magazine’s very esteemed design collective.
Marcel was recently in Australia as a guest of Space Furniture and spoke about his work at a series of design talks in Sydney and Melbourne.
