The latest collaboration between Italian design brand Kartell and Space Furniture brings together the sophisticated work of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec with Kvadrat, one of the world's leading textile weavers.

The Bouroullec's have crafted a knitted upholstery collection for Kvadrat consisting of three tactile designs that project a strong sense of volume and depth. Canal, Gravel and Moraine introduce a new understanding of textile material, and all are constructed using a double jersey knit.

In designing the collection, the brothers focused on creating textiles with sensual surfaces derived from their internal structure. Consequently, during the development process the focus was on exploring construction as opposed to purely ‘aesthetic statements’.

“At the very beginning of our research there is a fascination for the structural traits of textiles that, observed under a magnifying glass, can be interpreted like a lattice of threads building marvellous architectures,” explain the brothers.

This is the fifth collaboration between Space and Kartell after the successful blue Componibili, Paul Smith's Pop sofa, the Kenzo sofa and the White Gnome. The new collection of Kvadrat designs by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec is available in both the Plastics Duo and Pop collections.

Available through Space Furniture stores in Australia and Asia and Kartell Sydney at Chatswood Chase.
