Working with the theme 'Senses', the jury has announced four designers who will work with design mentors Max Lamb, Arthur Huang, Robin Hunicke and Neri & Hu, with all 12 finalists exhibiting their designs during Milan Design Week this April. Fist launched in 2013, the Lexus Design Award gives young designers the chance to gain real experience during their prototyping stage by working in a kind of micro-apprenticeship mode with real designers. Key to any award in the design industry is this level of first hand, practical knowledge. Something that can only be gained working alongside practices who have travelled the road from concept to manufacture. This year Shanghai-based designers Neri & Hu will be mentoring designer Keita Ebidzuka whose project ANIMAL MASKS. ANIMAL MASKS, allows wearers to see the world through animals' eyes. It's an evocative idea that juxtaposes the mythical and the symbolic with the now.
A Lexus Design Award Grand Prix Winner will be nominated from among the four prototype finalists and all 12 finalists will be on show in the Lexus space at Zona Tortona during the Milan Furniture Fair from April 14 to 19, 2015.
