During Patricia Urquiola's recent visit to Australia she had a series of conversations with Artichoke editor Cassie Hansen in which she shared her love of the process of design and the importance of design's little 'd' – what she describes as an attitude that is open and down to earth and respecting of the skills of all the people in the creative mix. The first in a four-part series, here Patricia Urquiola talks about the early years of her career, the influences of designers including Marco Zanuso, Achille Castiglioni and Vico Magistretti, and the launch of her own studio in Milan in 2001.

The video series is presented by Architecture Media and Space Furniture and produced by Melbourne film makers Spilt Milk.
