Designed by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, Rituals is the latest light by the design team who describe the lamp as the meeting between two ancient cultures – the Chinese paper lamp 'washi' and Venetian glass. Well known for designs including Birdie and Gregg, the Palomba's work for Italian lighting group Foscarini began through their collaboration with Venetian glass makers Murano. Shapes and materials are characterised by a deep understanding of light, and how to control it. Theatre is what the designers were looking for with Rituals, as well as the ability to convey the idea of 'lightness'. Here the designers describe the process of designing Rituals, while we get a rare glimpse inside their Milan studio that's filled with drawings, artworks, toys, books and musical instruments.
