Berlin based designer Werner Aisslinger has recently completed work with lighting group Foscarini in a process that required the ingenuity of the Italian group's design department. Werner Aisslinger has been developing furniture with Italian brands including Zanotta, Porro and Foscarini, and collections for the office with Vitra, Switzerland, for the past 10 years. He describes a delight in making use of the latest technologies and has helped introduce new materials and techniques to his work in product design, including the 'soft cell' chaise for Zanotta that was released in 2000 and broke new ground in the use of Technogel® beyond its traditional role in industry. Behive is the first lamp designed by Aisslinger for Foscarini. It is both a table lamp and hanging pendant available in white with a circular base and made in opaque ABS with an upper polycarbonate diffuser. Here, Aisslinger talks about the ideas, techniques and collaborative process behind the making of Behive.
