Sydney-based designer Trent Jansen is the recipient of the inaugural 2010 Space+Edra Design Residency. Selected by Edra’s Art Director, Massimo Morozzi, from 10 shortlisted applicants, Jansen commences his two-month residency at the famed headquarters in Perignano, near Pisa, from September this year. There he’ll work alongside Morozzi and his creative team. The program – initiated by Christina Caredes, General Manager of Space and the Australian Design Unit – marks the beginning of a new cross-cultural exchange between Space’s international network of manufacturers and emerging Australian talent. Its aim is to foster new skills and collaborations for local designers who are establishing themselves in the market.
Edra was the natural choice for the 2010 residency program. It has a reputation for conceptually strong and technically innovative work developed in conjunction with emerging international designers. Morozzi himself is an astute talent scout. As well as Jansen, he famously discovered Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana, who the company has worked with since 1997.
On returning to Australia, Trent Jansen will hold a series of talks sharing his experiences at Edra. Talks will be held at Space stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
